 A clear light yellow to brownish liquid.
Strength of Aroma: A top note of medium aroma, Citronella has a well-rounded lemony scent, though it is much softer and has subtle wood tones.
Blends well with: Bergamot, Orange, Cedarwood, Geranium, Lemon, Lavender and Pine.
Origin: Indonesia

 

Process Flow:

This essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the freshly cut or partially dried grasses of Cymbopogon winterianus (Family: poaceae)

Benefits:

The diaphoretic properties of this essential oil increases sweating and promotes the removal of toxins and other unwanted materials like fat and excess water from the body. It is rich in antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Citronella essential oil has a slightly sweet, powerful, and lemony scent. It smells delicious in soaps, perfumes, and deodorants. Citronella works wonders as a natural insect repellent. It may also help rid pets of fleas. Mixed with a carrier oil and rubbed on the skin, citronella will keep mosquitoes from biting.

Commonly uses:

Citronella blends well with bergamot, cedarwood, geranium, grapefruit, lemon, lime, melissa, orange, pine, sage, tangerine.

  • Insect repellent: pour a 2-3 drops on palm and rub evenly on the body.
  • Refreshing bath: pour 2-3 drops in warm bath water to have a refreshing body odor ending bath
  • Oily skin: pour 2-3 drops on palm and rub evenly all over the body.

 

Cautions:

Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals, and should be avoided by those allergic to ragweed; a skin test is recommended prior to use, and contact with eyes should be avoided.

Citronella Oil is extracted from a resilient grass native to Sri Lanka and Java. It is a very aromatic perennial that grows approximately 1 meter (3 feet) in height. It is often used in combination with Cedarwood to produce pleasant-smelling patio candles and torches.
